The Process

Who’s Involved

The Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek) area runs through a growing city and overlaps with the jurisdictions of multiple governments. Protecting Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek) requires the direct involvement of the government bodies which have an interest in its future. These five government bodies are shown below.

What We’re Doing

The five governments are working together to plan for the protection of the Chasàn Chùa (McIntyre Creek) area. In the first phase, the Steering Committee worked together to explore options and make recommendations to the five governments for protection. In their analysis and recommendations, the Steering Committee were informed by engagement with First Nation Citizens and Beneficiaries, the public and stakeholders.

After considering the Steering Committee’s recommendations, the Government of Yukon, with support from the other governments, made the decision to designate Chasàn Chùa as a territorial park. Formal protection was announced on June 19, 2025, including a permanent withdrawal from new mineral staking. In the coming months, the governments will begin management planning through a new Steering Committee. There will be future opportunities for First Nation Citizens and Beneficiaries, stakeholders, and the public to be involved in this planning.

See the governments’ Memorandum of Understanding that outlines how they work together.
